The International Rugby Experience is delighted to announce that the 5th class students of JFK
Primary School in Limerick City have won the inaugural “Sports Story” Podcast Competition.
Launched in April, this innovative competition was aimed at senior primary school students across
Ireland. It received an overwhelming response, showcasing the incredible creativity and passion for
sports among young students. From a competitive shortlist of over 32 podcasts, JFK Primary School
emerged victorious with their submission, “The First Whistle”—a captivating four-episode series
covering the Olympics, Rugby, Hurling and Soccer.
As the winning class, the students were invited to participate in an exclusive, in-person workshop at
the International Rugby Experience. The highlight of the event was a special guest appearance by
Munster and Ireland rugby player Craig Casey. During the workshop, the students planned,
presented, and produced a special episode of the podcast, working closely with Craig to delve into
his “Sports Story.”

The episode explored Craig’s journey in rugby, from why he started playing the sport and his
thoughts on the greatest players of all time, to cherished memories of his first try. The discussion
also touched on how the Kennedy Cup influenced his decision to pursue rugby, who he prefers to sit
with on long-haul flights, and the perennial debate: Messi or Ronaldo?
This unique experience not only rewarded the students’ hard work and creativity but also provided
them with invaluable insights and inspiration from a professional athlete.

Stories are important at the International Rugby Experience – stories told by players of the passion
for the game that propelled them to greatness, stories of how rugby has impacted politics across the
generations, stories of grassroots rugby and how it has grown and developed in nations around the
world.
It is because of this love of stories, for rugby in particular and sport in general, that the International
Rugby Experience, in collaboration with Createschool, launched the Sports Story podcast
competition.
From rugby, hurling and soccer to cricket, horse riding and swimming, students across Ireland
embraced the opportunity to tell their unique stories about why they love playing, supporting and
being part of the sports community.

With the help of bespoke resources, they gained hands on experience of scripting, recording and
editing, enhancing their communication and digital media skills. The resulting podcasts have not only
showcased the students’ love for sports, but will also enrich the listeners understanding of the
positive impact sports have on children and communities.
The International Rugby Experience is proud to support and nurture the next generation of sports
enthusiasts and storytellers.
Craig Casey’s Sports Story podcast, produced by JKF, is available to listen to now .
All of the shortlisted podcasts will feature on The Sports Story spotify channel in the coming week.
