My favourite quote from @michelleobama book ‘Becoming’ .
It’s a sentence that struck me when I first read it a year ago, and has stayed with me ever since.
It’s something that makes so much sense when you reflect on it and it helps prevent you from passing judgement on anyone else.
As women, as moms, we have many decisions to make every day. Some are larger decisions, some more mundane.
Just because I may not choose to parent like another mom, it does not make my way or her any better or not. It’s just her way and my way.
This also relates to working life .. some women choose to work full time, while others choose to work part time, while others chose to stay at home full time.
It can be easy for people to judge because they’d choose to do it another way, but that’s a judgement that’s not necessary. Why be put out by the way someone else chooses to work or parent? That’s for them .. you work and parent in a way that suits you.
On this International Women’s Day, I’ve been reflecting on this quote and the sentiment, so I thought it might be worth sharing.
If we all judged a little less, accepted that differences are just that, and all put our focus and energy into our own way of being .. then it would all feel a lot more freeing and supportive.
You be you .. let her be her .
