Pat has very kindly shared her views on Motherhood with us, and what’s important and valued in their home ….
Watching my children grow is, to me, the greatest show on earth. Nothing can ever compare to the incredible experience of seeing a little kid develop.
The most important thing to me about motherhood/parenthood is teaching my children that they are not above anyone else and that they should never value ‘stuff’ over ethics and integrity.
I want them to understand that every person deserves respect and kindness, no matter their status, background, or circumstances. This begins with recognising that we all share a common humanity, and it’s crucial that they learn to approach every individual with humility and open hearts and minds.
A core part of this lesson is the commitment to treat everyone equally and fairly. I want my children to grow up strong in their belief in diversity and equity, knowing that these principles are not just words, but actions we live by every day at our home.
Whether it’s standing up against social injustice or embracing differences in others, I want them to see the beauty in our varied experiences and perspectives. I want them to know that diversity enriches our world and that equity ensures everyone has a fair chance to thrive.
Above all, I want my children to have a clear sense of right and wrong, guided by a moral compass that points toward empathy and integrity.
I hope they learn to look at others with compassion and love, to understand that true strength lies in uplifting those around us. By instilling these values, I believe they will grow into adults who contribute positively to the world, leading lives marked by respect for all and a deep commitment to justice.
