Family Friendly Things to do in Donegal

Donegal is one of the most highly recommended Counties when it comes

Donegal is one of the most highly recommended Counties when it comes to Families looking for things to do and inspiration for days trips and staycations.

As always, we are sharing the ideas and top places that have come recommended by other families…places that have been tried, tested and recommended and passed on to other families to enjoy!

In a County so big, we’re bound to be missing some gems so we’d love to hear some of your favourites in the comments below:

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:

  • Moville – Seaside Town. Shore Walk – takes you all the way to Greencastle with stunning views.
  • Inish Adventures – Sea Adventure Water Park, Kayaking, Canoeing, Sailing, River Rafting, Archery and more!
  • Greencastle Shore Path – Fairy Trail
  • Lough Foyle Ferry – takes you across the water Magilligan with easy access to the North Coast.
  • Shroove – stunning beach
  • Inishowen Head Loop Trail – great walk with fabulous scenery
  • Muckish – fun way to spend the day [older kids]
  • An Grianan Fort, Burt
  • Inch Wildfowl Reserve – amazing 8km looped walks around Inch Lake with amazing views, wildlife, picnic benches all around and great to cycle too.
  • Wild Ireland
  • Selkie Sailing, Kincasslagh – canoeing, kayaking and loads more!
  • Glenveagh National Park – 4km walk in, and 4km back. Great for bikes and scooter. Lovely walks, gardens, castle and coffee shop. Buggy Friendly
  • Malin Beg Beach
  • Sliabh Liag Cliffs
  • Maghera Beach and Caves
  • Assaranca Waterfall
  • Murder Hole Beach, Melmore Head, Downings [about 2km off road. Not buggy friendly – sling for baby]
  • Melmore Beach
  • Tra na Rossan Beach
  • Rathmullan Beach
  • Boardwalk at Donegal Board Walk Resort – 1.1km wooden boardwalk that brings you across the dunes directly to miles of white Donegal beaches. 
  • Ards Forest Park – outdoor play area, coffee spots, boardswalks, forest and beach walk – great place for cycling
  • Oakfield Park, Raphoe – Gardens, Trains, Cafe, Maze, Pump Trolley
  • Sliabh Liag Scenic Tours
  • Donegal Bay Waterbus – suitable for all ages, pet friendly
  • Glenevin Waterfall, Clonmany
  • Bundoran Fun Fair

INDOOR ACTIVITIES:

  • Donegal Craft Village – centre for contemporary arts and crafts.
  • An Grianan Hotel, Burt – Interactive Visitors Centre. Open for all to visit and learn about local history
  • Dunree – loads to see and gorgeous walks
  • Alcorn Tropical World, Letterkenny
  • Fanad Lighthouse
  • Donegal Castle
