Valentine’s Day Movies Kids Will Love!

Valentine’s Day is a special time to celebrate love, friendship, and all

Valentine’s Day is a special time to celebrate love, friendship, and all the warm fuzzy feelings! While adults might exchange flowers and chocolates, kids can join in the fun too! What better way to celebrate than by snuggling up with family or friends to watch some movies about love and friendship? Whether it’s about magical adventures, silly antics, or unforgettable friendships, there’s something for every little Valentine.

In this blog, we’ve gather together a selection of fun, kid-friendly Valentine’s Day movies, some of our favourites and lots recommended by families! We’ve also included a few little ideas for making it a little extra special!

1. Beauty and the Beast

This classic Disney tale is perfect for Valentine’s Day! Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a brave young woman who learns to look beyond appearances to discover the goodness inside the Beast. This movie is full of fabulous songs, and a sweet message about love and kindness.

💡 Fun Fact: Did you know that the movie’s theme song, “Beauty and the Beast,” won an Academy Award?

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Decorate your space like a magical castle! Add fairy lights, some roses, and maybe even wear a princess or prince costume for extra fun!

2. Gnomeo & Juliet

How about a funny twist on a famous love story? Gnomeo & Juliet features two garden gnomes who fall in love despite their families being rivals. With lots of laughs, and Elton John’s music, this movie is a crowd pleaser for all ages.

🌸 Why Kids Love It: It’s full of quirky characters and silly moments, making it lots of fun!

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Set up a mini gnome garden on your table using toy gnomes, fake flowers, and colourful decorations.

3. The Peanuts Movie

Charlie Brown and Snoopy are always a hit with kids, and this heart-warming movie is no exception. While it’s not strictly about Valentine’s Day, it’s full of love and friendship. Charlie Brown tries to impress his crush, the Little Red-Haired Girl, while Snoopy embarks on an imaginary adventure.

❤️ What Makes It Perfect for Valentine’s Day: Themes of kindness, courage, and loyalty make it a great reminder of what love is all about.

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Serve snacks inspired by Snoopy! How about “puppy chow” (a mix of cereal and chocolate) or cookies shaped like hearts?

4. Cinderella

This timeless Disney classic never goes out of style! The older animated version and the newer version were very popular with our gang! Cinderella’s story reminds us that dreams can come true, and kindness is always rewarded. With a lovable fairy godmother, a dreamy ball, and a happily-ever-after ending, it’s a perfect Valentine’s Day pick.

🪄 Magical Moment: When the fairy godmother transforms Cinderella’s rags into a sparkling gown – it’s pure Disney magic!

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Have a dress-up party before watching. Kids can wear their fanciest outfits or even pyjamas with tiaras!

5. Shrek

This hilarious movie proves that love comes in all shapes and sizes. Shrek, an ogre, and Princess Fiona have an unconventional love story filled with adventure, humour, and lots of heart. And not to forget Donkey!

😂 Why Kids Will Laugh: Shrek’s funny jokes and Donkey’s nonstop talking are guaranteed to keep everyone giggling.

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Make green “Shrek” smoothies! Blend bananas, spinach, and yogurt for a healthy treat that’s just as green as Shrek.

6. Tangled

Rapunzel’s story is an exciting adventure with romance, bravery, and lots of laughs. This Disney movie tells the story of a girl with magical hair who escapes her tower to see the floating lanterns and discovers love along the way.

🎶 Sing-Along Fun: The songs, like “I See the Light,” are so catchy that kids [and adults!] will be humming them long after the credits roll.

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Create your own “floating lanterns” by hanging paper lanterns or fairy lights around the room.

7. Paddington 2

While it’s not specifically a Valentine’s Day movie, Paddington 2 is full of love and kindness – the perfect message for this holiday. Follow Paddington Bear on his adventure as he spreads joy and tries to clear his name after being wrongly accused of a crime.

🧸 Why It’s a Winner: Paddington’s sweet and polite nature is a reminder that a little kindness goes a long way.

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Serve marmalade sandwiches, just like Paddington! Kids can make their own with bread, butter, and marmalade.

8. The Princess and the Frog

This movie takes kids on a magical journey through New Orleans with Tiana, a hardworking young woman, and Prince Naveen, who’s been turned into a frog. Together, they learn about love, dreams, and finding what truly matters.

🎷 Why It’s Unique: The music and beautiful animation make this movie stand out.

🍿 Movie Night Tip: Try a New Orleans-inspired snack, like beignets (basically doughnuts!)

How to Make Valentine’s Movie Night Extra Special

Here are some fun tips to turn your Valentine’s Day movie night into an unforgettable celebration:

  1. Set the Scene: Decorate with cosy blankets and favourite teddies, dolls, etc.
  2. Make Heart-Themed Snacks: Think heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes, or even pink popcorn!
  3. Craft Time: Before the movie starts, let kids make Valentine’s Day cards for family and friends.
  4. Sing and Dance: Choose a movie with catchy songs and have a sing-along or dance party.
  5. Photo Fun: Create a simple photo booth with props like heart-shaped glasses or tiaras, and take silly pictures together. Our youngest got an Instax Camera from Santa, and this is one of her favourite things to do!
