Things to do in West Cork this February Midterm Break

February Midterm Break is fast approaching and we’re as excited as the

February Midterm Break is fast approaching and we’re as excited as the kids to have a few days away from the lunch box scenario!

Whether your school is closed for two days or the whole week, whether your kids have reached school age or not, there’s lots to enjoy in February in West Cork!

EAT:

Morning Coffee from Wild + Tame in Kinsale where you can now taste their delicious goodies at The Bridge and also in their new shop in the town. Perfect locations for early morning walks or fun by the water.

Lunch at The Fish Basket at Long Strand, and while you’re waiting for your delicious fish and chips, the kids can have great fun on the dunes, and even pick up a stone or two for some Valentine’s Art Activities!

The Life Boat Inn in Courmacsherry is the ideal place for a cosy, delicious family dinner. Renowned for their amazing food, be sure to leave some room for their Five Farms Tiramusu. You can thank us after !

PLAY:

If heavy rain arrives, it’s nice to have an option for Indoor Play. The Treehouse in Skibbereen provides exactly that – an indoor play centre that’s fun for kids and is relaxing for adults too. A great place to meet up with other families as kids of all ages love the separate areas for Toddlers and Older Kids.

STAY:

Clonakilty Park Hotel is the ideal base for anyone looking for a Staycation option in West Cork. Lots of activities on site including their Leisure Centre and Indoor Play Center, Cinema and Clonakilty Adventure Centre. Their proximity to the town makes it the perfect place to check family friendly offerings nearby such as The Model Railway Village, Inchydoney and Duneen Beaches, Fig and Olive Cafe for some food and Revel Clonakily for a coffee and some Interiors and Clothing shopping!

SHOP:

Bantry is home to Forest & Forest, an Independently Owned and Curated Store where Irish Art, Craft and Design is celebrated. They champion some of Ireland’s Top Makers and Creators, resulting in a fabulous selection for all ages. We particularly love Fauna Kids Clothing, a multi award winning Eco Irish Brand. And while you’re browsing, why not pick up a coffee and kids hot chocolate in their Petite Coffee Bar in-store, Piccolo Coffee.

WALK:

West Cork has an abundance of family friendly walks to choose from. Beaches to Woods, Pathways to Hills, there’s something for all ages and abilities. Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve is one such option and it has a range of walking trails to choose from. There are plenty of picnic areas and be sure to keep an eye out for the Waterfall and the multitude of flora and fauna to be seen.

BEACH:

Are you even in West Cork if you haven’t been to the beach?! Two of our picks for this Midterm are Barleycove and The Warren. Both offer stunning views and gorgeous beaches for play and walks. Both provide a free morning or afternoon of fun with friends and both are shining examples of the best of West Cork.

MAKE:

Midterm is also about relaxing at home. Why not use some of the stones gathered at the beach for the kids to make Fingerprint Hearts in preparation for Valentine’s Day? Or gather up some toilet rolls, push in the top to make a heart shape, and let the kids off with their imaginations to make cards, notes and pictures for their loved ones.
