Keem Bay

Location: Keem Beach, County Mayo, Ireland

Keem Bay is a beautiful sandy beach situated in County Mayo. It is one of the most beautiful picturesque, colorful small beaches in Ireland. The beach is surrounded by mountains, it has crystal clear waters. Keem Bay is backed by grassy slopes. There is a stunning cliff-top walk from Benmore to Achill Head. Nearby, the abandoned village of Bunowa houses the remains of 17 circular cottages. Visit with family and have some quality time around this beautiful beach.

This place comes with some history, during WWI an observation post was built by the British Army to tackle the Germans from debarking arms for the Irish Republican Army. After WWI it was rebuilt by the Irish Force during WWII & was being used as a lookout post for the Coast watching service, which was active until 1945.
