It’s the time of year to consider adding a new tradition – making our own Christmas Cake! We’ve been chatting with a few families recently who have been thinking similar, so we decided to put it out to all of our wonderful community and find the best Christmas Cake Recipes in Ireland!

 

The results are in, and in no particular order, these are the most popular Christmas Cake Recipes in Ireland …

MARY BERRY’S CLASSIC VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS CAKE

Lots of recommendations came in for Mary Berry’s Classic Victorian Christmas Cake. It seems to be a firm favourite with families around the Country. When the first instruction is to marinate the fruit in sherry for three days, you know it’s a good one! And one we’d need to get baking! Check out the recipe HERE

 

NIGELLA LAWSON’S EASY CHRISTMAS CAKE

Another Christmas Cake that was recommended many times. Nigella shares a wide variety of Christmas Cake types, but this was a favourite due to the ease of making and access to the ingredients. Sounds like a great one to start with for a first attempt! Check out the recipe HERE

 

ODLUMS CHRISTMAS CAKE

A definite nostalgia one here. Many people had a story or tradition to go with this recipe, with lots of Grandparents being mentioned as starting them on this recipe! And isn’t that exactly what the Spirit of Christmas is all about. Check out the recipe HERE

 

DARINA ALLEN’S ICED CHRISTMAS CAKE

It wouldn’t be a Christmas Cake Roundup without a recipe from the wondeful Darina Allen of Ballymaloe fame. She has shared many Christmas Cake Recipes over the years, including this option HERE for an iced cake with full instructions on how to make the almond paste and cake icing.

 

SIMMER AND STIR CHRISTMAS CAKE

A wonderful option for anyone who wants to make their own Christmas Cake, but might have a little less time or not want to go all out with it! This Simmer and Stir Christmas Cake could be just what you’re looking for. No beating, but all the taste! Check out the recipe HERE

And last, but by no means least, is Delia Smith’s Creole Cake which was recommended so many times we lost count! We’re not sure if all the liquid that soaks the fruit is the primary reason, or the fact it’s originally from the beautiful Carribean, but this proved very popular! Recipe can be found HERE
