Location: Fenit Strand, Fenit, Co. Kerry
Fenit Strand is a popular sandy beach located in Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry. It’s a small sheltered beach with excellent views across to the mountainous Dingle Peninsula on the other side. This Blue Flag Awarded beach is very calm and popular for swimming, sailing, kayaking and it’s a fisherman's paradise. The beach has clean toilets and car parking. There is a children's playground making this place a great destination for families with kids. There is a café across the road and other facilities as bars, shops, staying places could be found in a short distance from the center of Fenit.
Fenit Strand has some interesting history. A ship with 24 hanged man surrendered here in 1583, the ship was from the Spanish Armada. The area was a scene of a major landing by Free State soldiers in the Irish Civil War as part of an offensive to take Kerry.
