Hi there! My name is Valerie and I have been teaching pregnancy yoga since 2012. The aim of my classes is to support and empower women through their pregnancy, labour and early days of motherhood.
Pregnancy yoga supports the growing needs of the pregnant body during all three trimesters, creating a balance between the physical, mental and emotional changes that pregnancy brings. Based on traditional yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breathwork) and savasana (ending meditation) everything taught is adapted to be safe for mum and baby. Postures focus on strengthening, lining and relaxing the specific areas of the body that experience extra tension during pregnancy - such as shoulders, lower back, hips and pelvis; breathing techniques encourage connection between body and mind, to help bring focus not only during pregnancy but also for labour; and mediation allows for stillness and reflection.
Small group classes allow for individual focus and attention. They are taught in a relaxed and open environment, where everyone is encouraged to share. To learn from each other. No prior experience of yoga is required, and classes are safe to join at any stage of pregnancy.
